Ghanaian highlife musician and record producer Bisa Kdei has confidently declared himself one of the finest songwriters in Ghana, saying, “I am the best when it comes to songwriting.”
The statement reflects the reputation the award-winning musician has built throughout his career, particularly through his ability to combine traditional highlife sounds with contemporary production and emotionally driven lyrics.
Bisa Kdei, born Ronald Kwaku Dei Appiah, rose to prominence after his breakthrough soundtrack ‘Azonto Ghost’. This work earned him Best Movie Soundtrack honours at the Ghana Movie Awards. It also gained recognition at Kumawood Movie Awards.
Bisa Kdei has released several popular songs. The list includes Mansa, Odo Carpenter, Metanfo, Madanfo, Love Letter, Give It to Baba, and Asew.
Breakthrough, released in 2015, marked a significant step in his career. Highlife Konnect, released in 2018, focused on linking African artistes and expanding highlife’s audience.
He has also collaborated with prominent Ghanaian and African artistes. These include Sarkodie, Efya, Obrafour, Stonebwoy, M.anifest, D-Black, Becca, E.L, R2Bees, Samini, Medikal, Patoranking, and Reekado Banks.
With songwriting awards already part of his career record, Bisa Kdei’s latest statement adds another chapter to the long-running conversation about Ghana’s finest songwriters and the role of highlife in contemporary Ghanaian music.
